3 Survivalist Books You Will Enjoy (and Should Read)!

There are a lot of books written about the Doomsday scenario. Survivalists are hungry to learn all they can, even from a fictional point of view. And sometimes that can be just as helpful as a non-fiction book.

Here are three great reads about the coming apocalypse that I can recommend.

They are:

The Jakarta Pandemic by Steven Konkoly

Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle

77 Days in September by Ray Gorham

THE JAKARTA PANDEMIC In the late fall of 2013, a lethal pandemic virus emerges from the Islamic Republic of Indonesia (IRI) and rages unchecked across every continent. When the Jakarta Flu threatens his picture perfect Maine neighborhood, Alex Fletcher, Iraq War veteran, is ready to do whatever it takes to keep his family safe. As a seasoned sales representative for Biosphere Pharmaceuticals, makers of a leading flu virus treatment, Alex understands what a deadly pandemic means for all of them. He particularly knows that strict isolation is the only guaranteed way to protect his family from the new disease.

With his family and home prepared for an extended period of seclusion, Alex has few real concerns about the growing pandemic. But as the deadliest pandemic in human history ravages northern New England, and starts to unravel the fabric of their Maine neighborhood, he starts to realize that the flu itself is the least of his problems. A mounting scarcity of food and critical supplies turns most of the neighbors against him, and Alex is forced to confront their unexpected hostility before it goes too far. Just when he thinks it can't get any worse, the very face of human evil arrives on Durham Rd and threatens to destroy them all.

Alex and his few remaining friends band together to protect the neighborhood from a threat far deadlier than the flu, as they edge closer to the inevitable confrontation that will test the limits of their humanity. From the author: "The Jakarta Pandemic was an enjoyable, yet sobering story to write. The likelihood of experiencing a devastating pandemic in our lifetime is quite real, and this cautionary tale explores the strengths and weaknesses of community bonds, in the face of such an epic civil disaster.

Told from a father's point of view, the story focuses on the human elements that shape our ability to survive, and should never be ignored. Survival in the face of desperation, anger and betrayal...a bad combination in the crowded suburbs, as food and life-critical supplies start to vanish. This book puts you in the middle of a likely and frighteningly realistic scenario, where everyone is a potential victim...no matter how well you think you prepared for The Jakarta Pandemic. Enjoy the ride, Steve."

The gigantic comet had slammed into Earth, forging earthquakes a thousand times too powerful to measure on the Richter scale, tidal waves thousands of feet high. Cities were turned into oceans; oceans turned into steam. It was the beginning of a new Ice Age and the end of civilization. But for the terrified men and women chance had saved, it was also the dawn of a new struggle for survival--a struggle more dangerous and challenging than any they had ever known....
"Massively entertaining."

On a Friday afternoon before Labor Day, Americans are getting ready for the holiday weekend, completely unaware of a long-planned terrorist plot about to be launched against the country. Kyle Tait is settling in for his flight home to Montana when a single nuclear bomb is detonated 300 miles above the heart of America. The blast, an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP), destroys every electrical device in the country, and results in the crippling of the power grid, the shutting down of modern communications, and bringing to a halt most forms of transportation.

Kyle narrowly escapes when his airplane crashes on take-off, only to find himself stranded 2,000 miles from home in a country that has been forced, from a technological standpoint, back to the 19th Century. Confused, hurt, scared, and alone, Kyle must make his way across a hostile continent to a family he’s not even sure has survived the effects of the attack. As Kyle forges his way home, his frightened family faces their own struggles for survival in a community trying to halt its slow spiral into chaos and anarchy.

77 Days in September follows Kyle and his wife, Jennifer, as they are stretched past their breaking point, but find in their devotion to each other the strength to persevere.

To learn more about what EMPs are, and what would happen if an EMP were detonated, watch this video...

How an "EMP Attack" could destroy the USA

It's very scary to think about it. An EMP -- Electro-Magnetic Pulse.

An EMP could wipe out everything.

>> Watch this Special EMP Video Report <<

An EMP would not only wipe out all your electrical devices but also the places that depend on electronics, such as hospitals, water treatment plants, and even the military.

Just imagine, having...

- no electricity

- no running water

- no cell phone

- no TV

- no computers

- no working cars

- no communications

Take a few minutes now and watch this...

An EMP (Electro-Magnetic-Pulse) is a sudden burst of radiation that produces a damaging voltage surge. EMP's can come from a nuclear detonation high in our atmosphere or even from our own Sun!

In a flash, electronics in everything we use in life would stop working. They are basically fried.

Many believe an EMP Attack is the #1 threat to the American infrastructure and way of life as we know it.

Even our personal safety would be compromised. If there are droves of people without anything, all hell could break lose.

Imagine what the highways would look like when 90% of cars and trucks came to an instant and permanent stop. Many families would be separated and have no way to get home.

For most people, there would be no communications or method of getting accurate news updates.

Most people wouldn't even know what had happened. Not until they made their way to the grocery store or hardware store, where they would soon learn a mass buying hysteria had already wiped out the shelves and they'd have to fight for scraps.

You need to know how to provide the basics for your family.

Learn about the best "Hardening Measures" you can take to protect yourself. Most of them are pretty easy and don't cost much. But you've got to see the video to get the details.

Don't ignore this threat, get the facts here...

Doomsday Preppers - Top Tips for Survivalists and Doomsday Preppers

Here are some key tips for Preppers. Believe me, these are important, so you need to read them and then take action on them.
  • Don't Let Prepping Overwhelm You!
As a new or experienced prepper it's still really easy to start thinking of all the things you might need and how much it's going to cost. This can be debilitating. The reality is, no matter how much you prepare or how much you spend there will always be more things that you will need to make your prepping even better. It's an endless goal, so take it in steps. Anything you do is better than nothing. Be grateful for your small steps of progress.
  • Pay Attention to the Basics!
Sure you can get some really cool things to go in your bug out bag, but if you forget the basics you probably will regret not focusing on it. Think about the things you would need to have to survive 72 hours, then when that's done, look at one month, three months etc. Also consider you may have to lug all these things around. It would be great to have a water purification system that distills water, but wouldn't it be much more efficient to have 72 hours' worth and a simple filter that you can use anywhere? Leave the big items for a more long term bug out location.
  • Keep Important Documents Safe
You should make sure to have copies of all of your important documents, such as drivers license, passports, medical information, emergency contacts, marriage certificate etc. If you lose your actual items you are not at a complete loss. Keep these printed; having them on your phone as photo's is good unless you don't have power; think redundancy.
  • Have a Plan
The question often comes up as to where people would go in an emergency, and who would contact whom. It was quickly apparent that we need a better worked out plan. We all need to know where to go, you and your family need the same thing. Consider a case where you cannot get back to your home, have a secondary location available. Also consider communication. If cell phones and land lines are down, what then? Is there somewhere to leave a message such as a note on a pole or something less technologically dependent?
  • What Emergency Are You Prepared For?
Based on where you live there are a variety of threats that you may need to consider that are local to you. You need to think of these and build out your prepping plan to cover that. For instance, if you live near a nuclear plant you'd need to be prepared with potassium iodide pills vs some place that may have more of a threat of, say, a biological or weather disaster.
  • Are You Prepared For Power Outage?
What happens if the power goes out? Have you checked your flashlights to make sure that they are charged? Or better yet, do you have a hand cranked flashlight? If you have refrigerated medicine, do you know what you'd do if you needed to keep that cold? Do you have means to cook should the power be out for an extended period of time? All of these things are items you need to consider if you are going to be prepared for any emergency.
